Monday I finally got a chance to go to the British Museum! It's massive. We were only able to go through 4 rooms, and didn't really have time to do much more than ooh and aah over things. We looked at ancient British, Greek, and Roman stuff, but the pictures are all Greek and Roman.
Here we are at the British Museum. It's slightly off center because our photographer was trying to cut out the kissing couple (you can still see the shoulder...). Ignore the fact I'm blinking.
I thought this modern statue looked nicely deformed. This is my "gargoyle pose".
Apparently this is an African acrobat being acrobatic on a crocodile. Not really sure what that's all about.
This vase is absolutely stunning. The method they use is also pretty creative. They blow the black vase out of glass, coat it in white, and let it harden. Then the artist carves down the white to create the scenes you see.
This is actually a lamp. With like a million places for wicks.
Thought you guys might get a kick out of this. It's armor for a Roman soldier, made out of--get this--crocodile skin!
Hehe, I look exactly like a Roman bust...
A lyre made with a turtle shell
An artist's interpretation of comic actors. I think they look pretty cool.
The coolest mug ever
Today I went and got a library card from the local library. They were very nice about giving it to the little American student. Then I went to three different libraries trying to find a book for a school project. I'm now the proud loanee of Casino Royale by Ian Fleming, the very first of the James Bond books.
